Donald Bustraan (American born 1960) is a Contemporary visual artist who creates paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints. Bustraan attended the Slade School of Art, London University where he studied art history and painting under Sir Lawrence Gowing and Patrick George.  Initially he developed applied art for some of the best interior designers in the business, namely Rose Tarlow, Ralph Lauren, Sally Sirkin Lewis, Barbara Barry, David Easton as well as several high end home furnishings companies. He lived and traveled throughout Asia and Latin America guiding manufacturers on the finer points of design and finishing.  In 2011, Bustraan returned to his Fine Art roots and set up an Art Studio in Los Angeles showing with other artists at Inglewood Studios. Later moving to North Carolina he established an Art Studio in High Point that focused on Artwork for Interior Designers.

While Bustraan’s style continues to evolve, his reputation is developing through a willingness to explore combinations of different artistic styles within a single canvas. Influences of Twombly (Asemic expressions), Picasso (Cubism) and De Kooning (biomorphic shapes and strong colours). Exploring visual narratives within these compositions challenging the viewer to read the clues within the artwork.
